Area Congressman Michael Arcuri has proposed a measure which could lead to more efforts like the Tompkins County Council of Governments.
Arcuri’s amendment allowing the Economic Development Administration to make grants for government efficiency assessments was unanimously approved by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Thursday.
The grants would allow local governments to explore consolidating services with other municipalities.
Arcuri says making local government more efficient can save taxpayers money and remove red tape that hinders private business activity.
Rush-hour traffic came to a standstill in downtown Ithaca last night as the driver of a dump truck lost control at East State Street and Seneca Way – crushed three parked cards and slammed into the Community School of Music and Art.
